Dr. Yo-El Ju is a neurologist and sleep medicine physician at Washington University in Saint Louis. She obtained her undergraduate degree in neuroscience at Harvard and her medical degree at Columbia University, and then completed her training in neurology and sleep medicine at Washington University in Saint Louis. Subsequently, she joined faculty at Washington University, where her research program focuses on how sleep and sleep disorders interact with neurodegenerative disorders. Major findings include determining the effect of slow wave sleep on modulation of amyloid-beta, a key protein in Alzheimer Disease; the effect of obstructive sleep apnea on central nervous system protein clearance; and sleep disturbances in the preclinical stage of Alzheimer Disease. She is also the principal investigator for the North American Prodromal Synucleinopathy (NAPS) Consortium for REM sleep behavior disorder, a parasomnia with strong links to Lewy Body Disease and Parkinson Disease.
