Dr. Michelle Mauermann MD is a neurology consultant with expertise in peripheral neuropathies at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She is an Associate Professor of Neurology and board certified in Neurology, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Neuromuscular Medicine and Neuromuscular Pathology. She graduated from medical school at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and completed neurology residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. She completed her peripheral nerve and clinical neurophysiology fellowships at Mayo Clinic, where she subsequently joined the staff in 2008. In her clinical practice, Dr. Mauermann provides care to a variety of peripheral nerve and neuromuscular conditions. She has special interests in paraproteinemic neuropathies, neoplastic neuropathies and treatment-related toxicity, peripheral nerve tumors and nerve pathology. Her research focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of paraproteinemic neuropathies and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and the cause and treatment for perineurioma, a benign peripheral nerve tumor. She is also involved in clinical trials involving transthyretin amyloidosis and POEMS syndrome.
