Dr. Lewis Morgenstern is Professor of Neurology, Emergency Medicine and Neurosurgery at the University of Medical School and Professor of Epidemiology at the School of Public Health. In October 2017 he concluded a 15 year period as Director of the Stroke Program. He was also Associate Chair of Neurology for Faculty Development and Finance. Dr. Morgenstern was the 2015 recipient of the American Heart Association’s William Feinberg Award for Excellence in Clinical Stroke. He is Principal Investigator of three NIH R01 grants including the Brain Attack Surveillance in Corpus Christi (BASIC) project (NIH R01381916) which is currently celebrating 20 years of continuous NIH funding. All of his R01s study health disparities with respect to race/ethnicity. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Morgenstern teaches a highly acclaimed undergraduate class on evidence-based medicine at the University of Michigan called “The Science of Medicine.” He is an active clinician and is the senior stroke neurologist at the University of Michigan’s Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center which is also the recipient of the Gold Plus Get With the Guidelines-Stroke award.
