Defne A. Amado MD, PHD

Defne Amado earned her BA at Columbia University with a degree in Neuroscience, followed by an MD/PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania, completing her thesis work in gene therapy for inherited retinal disease in the laboratory of Dr. Jean Bennett with the support of an NIH NRSA grant. At Penn she also completed her Internship and Neurology residency followed by a Neuromuscular Research Fellowship supported by an NIH R25 and a subsequent Brody Family Medical Trust Fund Fellowship. She currently specializes in the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases, having just completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Dr. Alice Chen-Plotkin's lab and now doing a second postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of Dr. Beverly Davidson. Her clinical specialty is neuromuscular disease with a special interest in ALS. She is severely good at Sudoku and looks forward to teaching her two young children just as soon as they learn their numbers.
