Session Overview

Women face different challenges at different stages in their careers. This year’s Women of the ANA will feature 3 short talks. First, a new Assistant Professor, Dr. Mellanie Springer, will discuss her path to securing her first academic faculty position. Associate Professor Dr. Leslie Skolarus will discuss the challenges and opportunities of leading newly formed research teams, and Professor and Chair Dr. Louise McCullough will speak on decision making across the academic spectrum. After these brief talks, the attendees will break up into small groups to discuss their experiences surrounding these three topics with ample time devoted to peer-mentoring and to expanding the discussion to other academic topics of interest to attendees.

Objectives

  • The attendee will be able to list 2 approaches to successfully lead researchers.

  • The attendee will gain a better understanding of navigating a system for academic advancement.

  • The attendee will be able to list challenges at each instructional level.
